Man arrested for fraud after firearms recovered at tattoo studio in Darlington.

In June 2011 police entered and searched the ‘Skin Deep’ tattoo studio in Darlington where an air rifle was located which had been modified.  During the search officers also recovered a substantial amount of correspondence that tended to suggest that Eric MITCHENSON had failed to pay a significant amount of tax in respect of his business.

Officers from HMRC combed through the personal records of MITCHENSON and discovered that in 1999 he had declared his business turnover was £20,000 and that he had paid no tax on this amount.

Further records showed that throughout that year MITCHENSON had a turnover of £76,000 through his business and that he owed VAT exceeding £20,000 during that year alone.

HMRC officers discovered that MITCHENSON had conned the public purse out of more than £260,000.  He was subsequently convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
